Are you ready? One of the bargain hunters events of the year is about to begin, yes, it’s Sydney Airport’s lost property auction. Here are our essential tips for getting yourself a bargain.
But it’s not all good news, it’s an online auction. Why is that bad? Well, let’s go back in time when they had traditional in-room auctions, and who went to those auctions? Just the locals. There were bargains galore. Now, everybody with an internet connection can make a bid, and bid they will.
So, how to get a bargain? Simple, do your research and know what you are bidding on. Even better if you live in Sydney, as inspections are open on 10 October between 8am – 4:30pm, which gives you the inside advantage of being able to power on items and understand their value. There’s really nothing worse than paying top dollar and getting a dud that someone had dumped.
The other big tip is to understand how the bidding process works at Pickles. The scheduled end time is not the auction item end time, if people are still bidding, the auction time for that item gets extended. So, plan your bidding appropriately and read the terms and conditions.
Also, importantly, keep in mind auction fees and shipping costs. Add those on and some items may not be so cheap at all. BUT, all proceeds from the auction go to charity, so it’s not such a bad loss 🙂
